So this will be my first time competing at a national. What can I expect. What are some hints you guys have tech, registration, etc. I will be arriving early Friday morning. Also what can I expect from the track set up there. Because I know a lot of the tracks are known for being set up certain ways. Thanks for any info....

don't wait in the lines at either registration or tech.

they open reg about 4pm - 6pm on friday. if your in line before they open it your good. but they haven't gotten the process down yet to keep the line moving. i wait till 7am on sat to register and then tech after that.

Just go and have fun! Talk to everyone and get to know people, everyone is really nice so if you see any quadzone stickers, shirts or hats be sure and say hey!

Pace yourself, it's a long race. There a lot of fast riders at national, so go at what speed you are comfortable with. If someone hit the rev limiter or yells at you and they are faster let them go and fall in behind.

Be careful on the first lap and don't let yourself get caught halfway up one of those big hills behind a stalled rider.

The mountain streams are COLD. It's not fun racing 2 hours with boots full of it. Take it easy through the creek crossings.

Have fun your first race and don't sweat the details or ride over your head.

Good luck!

Take your time and have fun with it. Depending on how long you have been riding it could get overwelming for you, especially toward the end, but just keep holding on and get throught it. I ended up much better at the end of my first race ever (The Wisp ) then I though... Good luck

Try to make friends with someone running in the same class as you. Most everyone is very friendly and will give you all kinds of good advice.

Most people have to pit for fuel at least once. Some people have to stop twice for fuel . Be sure and make plans for at least one stop for gas, googles, gloves, encouragement, etc.

As for the fans in the woods pointing out the "good" lines. I have been pointed to both good and bad lines. Generally speaking if the person pointing out the line is covered in mud, they have been pushing people all day and are tired and don't want to push you, so you can trust the line they are pointing out.
