Looking back at the 2008 GNCC Season

Rd 2 Washington, Georgia

Burrrr, was the common word flowing out of all of us who endured the second round in Georgia. Monster down pours on Friday followed by 30 degrees of snowing, sleet and high winds on Saturday. My hands and feet were frozen all day long. I experienced some frostbite on my finger tips that still haunts me until this day. It was a brutal race day for many however, we survived because we are cross country die hards!

The registration kiosks and transponders worked a lot better at Round 2.

Josh Merritt, Logan Fluharty and Seth Mumford, all from Ohio, claimed the youth podium out of 50 entries.

Stephanie Parton got the Women’s A class hole shot and went on to her one and only podium of the year.

Traci Cecco and Angel Atwell battled most of the day until Angel fried her clutches on the last lap.

Cecco, Parton and Bryan Buckhannon were the sole survivors on the podium out of 238 entries.
It was a teeth chattering interview by all three of them.

KTM’s Adam McGill had a stellar day from grabbing the hole shot, winning by 6 minutes and collecting his first career Pro overall win.

Buddies Taylor Kiser and Brandon Sommers had a hard fought battle and both ended up on the podium out of 276 entries.

Bill Ballance and Chris Borich scoring DNF’s was one of the biggest stories of this event. Borich snapped a chain after 2 laps and Ballance encountered an engine failure on lap one.

The second race of the year for Chris Bithell aboard his new Can Am DS 450 was running flawlessly until he got stuck during the 4th lap.

Brent Sturdivant had to call it a day after 3 laps due to a rear shock issue.

Walker Fowler limped around on the last lap after injuring his ankle to win the Schoolboy class.

Donnie Ockerman nailed the Pro Am hole shot and was leading the race. He ended up being penalized and finished in 19th place.

David Crane took the Pro Am class win with Mark Notman and Curtis Crump taking the silver and bronze medal.
